Patrick Newbold

Patrick Newbold

Acting Chief Information Officer, Social Security Administration

Patrick Newbold, now Acting Chief Information Officer, previously served as the Assistant Deputy Commissioner and Deputy CIO and leads the Social Security Administration (SSA) IT Modernization program. His key responsibilities include advising the Commissioner and executives on the impact of emerging technology, advancing IT innovation, and implementing SSA’s Digital Modernization Strategy.

Prior to joining SSA, he served as the agency’s Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO) and Director of Enterprise Information Technology for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In this role, he was the principal advisor to the CIO on information management/technology, policy, and administrative issues for the directorate and responsible for IT service delivery for over 37K users. In 2016, Mr. Newbold was selected to serve as an Army Congressional Fellow to support the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller as a U.S. Army Congressional Budget Liaison. During this tour, he also served as a senior staffer and policy advisor to a Member of Congress on all national security, military construction, Veterans Affairs, small business, Housing and Urban Development, energy and water, and environmental legislative matters. In 2013, he served as the Chief of Staff, Office of the Chief Information Officer, US Army Corps of Engineers.

In 2006, Patrick has served as a supervisory systems analyst where he led the deployment of the Army’s first Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, and from 2009- 2012; he served as the Executive Officer to the Deputy to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command. In this position, he assisted the Deputy to the Commanding General with managing a multifaceted and diverse organization with an annual budget of over $4 billion and a global workforce of over 10,000 military and civilian employees.

Patrick lives in the D.C. suburbs with his wife, Kate, and enjoys travel, exercise, and movies.
